Tuneecu post settings

I've done lots of research on flashing the Penner tune and there seem to be discrepancies between different people.
Once the flash is complete and you go into the adjustments where we do NOT reset adaptations, are there any check boxes that need to be checked here or elsewhere such as any ETV check boxes?

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. After the flash completed, I just powered off as instructed, disconnected, got geared up, and rode. No checkboxes or adjustment menus.

That's what I thought but just wanted to make sure, thanks. The 15min idle seems to be only necessary if adaptations are changed?

indeed you don't have to make the requested adjustments, you just have to let the engine idle for a good fifteen minutes when starting after installing the map without touching the accelerator.

Since I installed my Penner map (modified by a member of a French forum) my Rocket R loves the wheelings in 3rd gear...

No adaptation necessary after this. But you won't hurt anything other than your pocketbook if you do it. The bike will run fine and trims will adjust automatically anyway, just as they do when using different gas or riding in varying conditions. The tune doesn't change O2 sensor voltages, throttle closed voltage, etc. Idle was the correct speed as well, because there's no change in the tune that would affect it.

Adaption (fast or slow) is only "necessary" if the environment has changed significantly (like trailering your bike from sea level to high altitude) or there were major changes to how the bike operates (like new intake/exhaust) or where wear has caused a change between what a sensor or component does versus what the computer expects it to do. It's there to compensate for changes the ECU isn't aware of internally. Changes to the maps and throttle tables are changes the bike already is aware of and considers normal.

Yes, you just need to load the tune, power off, and go for a ride. The 15 minute idle is just letting the ECU "auto adapt", but doesn't do anything more for you than riding it does, as the ECU is an auto-adapting ECU anyway.

Now, if you manually reset the adaptions, neither the 15 minute idle nor riding it will fix the check engine light you get as resetting the adaptions also resets the crank position sensor and that will not automatically re-adapt. Luckily TuneECU supports the manual process to reset the crank sensor. You will also need to reset the cruise control. Both procedures are in the TuneECU doco.

I flashed the Penner tune this morning and all is well. The procedure is so simple yet so seemingly complicated at first becasue there is a mountain of information that needs to be condensed down. I did not have to reset the cruise control, it just kept working, and went for a ride.
What a difference that tune made, it feels so much better and especially consistent with the throttle restrictions removed.
