2nd gear dog mod

Another wtf moment when I bought this bike a few years back the guy said he'd had 2nd gear replaced but when he got it back he said it was unridable so he took it back again, it looks like the updated dog ring has been played with question is why? And when I replace it would I be faced with the same problem as they had

Triumph replaced the 2nd gear dog ring (6 dogs) to an 8 dog version (manual extract below).
There are a few upgrades made to the trans, per bold text in manual below.
Not sure what whoever was trying to do with that one in the photo!

Following on from it - while you have the cases apart, the oil PRV shim mod to boost oil pressure per Nev Lush is as below - thicken the shim to 0.4mm





Other bits to do while in there - Robinson Industries trans upgrades, threadloc (properly) the M12 bolt on the shifter, torsional damper bearing replacement & right way round.
If not doing the Robinson upgrade then at least make sure the circlips are all sharp edge out (round edge on gear side)

That's priceless info mate appoligies for the confusing earlier posts I was getting ahead of myself diagnosing by its symptoms as it went on it took a few twists on disassembly I've reposted posted a few pics of the nasty shim and bush which also has a sharp edge and some wear on it , from what you've said and what I've seen i think maybe they originally only changed the second dogring and tried to marry it to and older ver of the 2nd gear and when that failed this is what he ended up with, a new version of a failed system I can hear the monkeys laughing in the background Lol, the guy was not handy bless him hence it was left in the hands of the grease monkeys, moving forward, the info you have kindly passed on has softened the blow now knowing what upgrades it needs and we're to find them, theres no back up here in Thailand but now that we've spoken I have a Plan
