  1. Valve adjustment

I do not have first hand knowledge of this. And I would be the first to use a tool for this, if possible. But if it is possible to replace the shims without removing the camshafts, why isn't Triumph using that option in the workshop manual. For the earlier engines, Triumph provides a tool for...
  2. Valve adjustment

The shims are the same used on earlier Triumph engines, and same as on many jap bikes.....
  3. Valve adjustment

It is not possible to use any "tool" to replace shims on the Rocket engine. It doesn't help to compress the valve, there is no space to take out the shim, because of the construction. If a shim needs to be replaced, the camshafts must be taken out.
  4. Valve adjustment

No special tools are needed for doing a valve check. Except feeler gauge, of course...... Also replacing shims is easy, no special tools needed. What does the service manual says about tools?
  5. batteries

I ordered from England. TRIUMPH ROCKET 3 MOTOBATT High Torque Battery CTX YTX20L-BS 12V 21AH Battery Upgrade 280 Cca They are made in China. Have the same size as the original battery, no modifications needed on the bike.
  6. batteries

Recently I bought a Motobatt battery for my -05 Rocket. It is 21Ah, compared to original 18Ah. Can't say too much about it yet, but have done some cold starts at below zero degree's Celsius. And it seems to be very powerful.
  7. Throttle sticking Idle probem.

Yes, need Tuneboy to set it correctly. Or the the Triumph service tool. I got my new TPS sent directly to my home. Got it within 3 days, have to say I am impressed about the service this time, free and fast.......
  8. Throttle sticking Idle probem.

When the new TPS is used on production line at factory, I don't know. I have read about this new TPS late 2009. Guessing, late -09 should have this. The old TPS had part number T1245003 The new one is T1245113
  9. Throttle sticking Idle probem.

This is for sure the bad TPS problem. Triumph have at last sorted the problem and now there's a improved TPS (with blue internals) that hopefully will be better. Regardless of age of the bike, Triumph is standing behind the problem. NO CHARGE for new TPS or any labor costs for replacement...
  10. Hello from Sweden

New to the forum. Been driving british bikes since 1976. 400000 km. on Meriden bikes. Then 160000 km. on a -97 Hinckley Thunderbird. And now 60000 km. on a -05 RIII.
  11. triumph tappet adjusting tool + Triumph computer issue

It is the construction of the RIII cylinder head that is the problem. Even if you have a tool that hold the valves down, you can not get the shims out. The camshaft has to be removed. It was a simple thing on the older Hinckley engines, hold down the valve, and let the shim out. Your dealer has...
  12. triumph tappet adjusting tool + Triumph computer issue

No way to replace a shim with cam in place. But shims are the same as on older Hinckley bikes.
  13. Valve Clearance Check question

There's no special tool that makes it possible to change a shim, with cams still in place. Not on the Rocket engine. /TheSwede
  14. 10,000 mile valve clearance check

I had the same thought before. But when you open up and see the construction of the cylinderhead, then it is obvious. No way to change a shim with camshaft in place.
  15. 10,000 mile valve clearance check

Hi Can not understand how valves can be to loose? Then they must have been far out of spec from factory! Checked and adjusted valves at 10k. on my -05 Rocket. 4 valves too tight, the rest within spec. I guess there are no shim kits for Rockets, shims are the same as on earlier Triumphs. (and...
