I'm a native of Northwest Pennsylvania but I left there to join the U.S. Navy in 1985. I served in the Navy as a Boatswains Mate until 1997. I spent my first two years at Submarine Refit Site one Holy Loch Scotland. I was 18 and could legally drink. I remember getting there and I remember leaving... everything else is a bit fuzzy.
My two favorite duty stations were as a Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewman (9533) at Special oat Unit 20 Little Creek Virginia and as a Military Police Patrolman (9545) at Naval Station Mayport Florida.
As a civilian I've owned my own drafting and design firm, but I gave it up to mold young minds. I loved the work so the long hours were enjoyable to me, but not so much for my family. When my dad passed away Christmas 2013 I decided that I didn't need more money, what I really needed was more time with my kids (both adopted). I had been teaching drafting & design at a local technical school as well as teaching Plant Design Management System (PDMS) at the school for pipe design professionals when an opportunity fell into my lap. I now teach technical drawing and wood technology (to round out my schedule) at one of the best high schools in my state and I absolutely LOVE it.
When my dad died I hadn't ridden motorcycles since I was a kid riding the 1976 Honda MR250 Elsinore that my dad bought me.
Restoring his 1980 Yamaha XS850 Special that I inherited reignited the lust to ride. I'm nearly done restroing this bike to like new condition.
So I bought the 2014 Triumph Scrambler that was totaled in my recent crash. I had bought the scrambler because it was the closest thing I could find to my Dad's BSA that he gave up when I was born. I loved the Scrambler and I was impressed with how well it handled the trails of the Allegheny National Forest where i rode as a kid. For such a big heavy bike it did VERY well... until deep mud or sand, then forget about it.
Now that it is gone I chose the Rocket III Touring because around here we do a lot of riding to the Mississippi/Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast and the comfort and amenities of a big touring bike fits my riding style better.
