Yamaha YZF R1 has four cylinders with single plugs. For our project, we need six connectors for the Rocket's two plugs per cylinder. Pictured here are the "one and a half" harnesses, along with a new coil, and hand schematic.
Hi Joe, I like this idea and have ordered the parts, seeing as I have a broken spark plug connector....
Neet to ask two questions though;
1 - Which terminals do you connect the + supply to, and which the trigger (does it matter as long as all are the same)?
2 - Why the "one and a half" looms and not three "half looms"?
After all, there are three supplies to three coils originally, so why not just take each individual supply and each trigger and feed then to the two corresponding COP's?
Well, that doesn't work and introduced some starting issues.
Had to jump start it at home (though it started ok the day before) - the second start was ok again
rode for several miles and had breakfast when I then tried to start her the engine just kept turning over with no attempt to fire - even with a jump starter - eventually it started and I rode home.
Someone suggested my battery may not be delivering sufficient volts.....
My battery is fine (12,75 volts after standing for days) -- I suspect the small Yamaha coils don't deliver sufficient HT voltage.
Anyway - I have now reverted the mod back to the Rocket coils and starts without issue
Trial and error is one way of learning, even if it is costly....
So take my word for it - this mod "with three half looms" does not work and cost me over £200 (GBP) to try it
I guess that is why I got no response from Joesmoe about his harness
